Celebrities Tattoos: good and bad

Angelina Jolie’s Self Expression in Tattoos

The world is obsessed with celebrities: what they eat, how they look, who they’re with and what they think, but it’s a quid pro quo. Celebrities are equally obsessed with the limelight and making their opinions known. Tattoos are one of the ways celebrities express themselves and what they deem important.

Angelina Jolie, for example, has the title of her favorite song tattooed on her neck. Written in Gothic font the words “Know Your Rights” represent a song by The Clash. Even more interesting, Angelina has location coordinates for the birth of each of her adopted children tattooed on her left arm. The last line of that tattoo is her husband’s, Brad Pitt, birth place in Oklahoma.

Though Angelina has never committed herself to a specific religion, she has several tattoos that represent different creeds and languages. One tattoo is a Pali Buddhist incantation that translates to:

“May your enemies run far away from you.

If you acquire riches, may they remain yours always.

Your beauty will be that of Apsara.

Wherever you may go, many will attend, serve and protect you, surrounding you on all sides.”

Another is in Arabic and translates to “determination” or “strength of will”, one in Latin that translates to “What nourishes me, destroys me” and yet another that is simply in Roman numerals and refers to a Winston Churchill speech.

Angelina has had at least a dozen tattoos, but not all were kept. While married to fellow actor Bill Bob Thornton she had his name tattooed next to a dragon on her arm, but with the marriage’s dissolution had it removed and covered up. She later said that she will never have another man’s name tattooed on her body.
